The John Deere LX289 lawnmower is the biggest garden tractor in the the JD ‘LX’ series of lawnmowers.It gets it’s power from a very robust Kawasaki FH500V gasoline engine that produces 17 hp for powering the JD LX289 forward and the mower deck. The engine has a displacement of 0.493 liters. It has a key start ignition and the battery used to start it is recharged via a 13 amp alternator once the engine is ticking over. The fuel capacity of the gas tank is 11.4 liters (3 US gallons) which will allow you to operate the machine for over 2 hours continuously before it needs to be refueled.
As the John Deere LX289 weighs in at 222 kg (490 lbs), the wheels are quite wide to distribute it’s weight evenly and prevent it from leaving excessively large thread marks. The rear wheels measure 20×10-8 (20 inch diameter, 10 inch width, 8 inch rim diameter) while the front wheels measure 15×6-6 (15 inch diameter, 6 inch width, 6 inch rim diameter). These wide wheels on top of having a large width and relatively low center of gravity contribute to this John Deere lawnmower being very stable on slopes and hills. However do be careful not to use the machine on slope with excessively large gradients, otherwise you risk the lawnmower tipping over and injuring you.
